The X-Files brings Brent Waller’s office build into a two-level mystery
Eight minifigures and a forest above Mulder’s office give the 2026 LEGO Ideas set several ways to tell its story.

An idea that started with a rewatch
Brent Waller first built Mulder’s office in 2014 while revisiting The X-Files, according to LEGO’s July 2026 announcement. The Brisbane-based fan designer, known as wetwired, later submitted his project through the LEGO Ideas ’90s Nostalgia Challenge. The official 1,478-piece set, 21369, reached general release on August 4, 2026.
That long path gives the model a particularly appealing fan connection. It began with a specific place someone wanted to recreate. In our view, an office is a strong foundation for a television tribute: the everyday surroundings can carry memories of many stories, even before the more spectacular scenery arrives.
Two settings, one compact composition
The finished model combines the office with a woodland scene and a UFO supported on a transparent pole. LEGO lists the combined display at approximately 30 centimeters high and 23 centimeters wide and deep. The forest can be displayed separately, and the office desk section can be removed to expose the interior.
Those options are worth considering before choosing a shelf. A combined display directs attention upward, from a recognizable working space to an extraordinary encounter. Separating the scenes changes that relationship: each becomes a small setting in its own right. Neither arrangement needs to be permanent, and the choice can depend on which details you want visitors to notice first.
A cast that reaches beyond the two leads
Mulder and Scully are joined by Walter Skinner, Mr. X, Alex Krycek, Carl Busch, the Flukeman and a gray alien. For collectors, that makes the eight-character selection an important part of the model’s appeal. Our suggestion is to arrange a few characters within a scene rather than crowd every figure into the office at once.
The official Secrets of Our Sets feature says the model contains 24 hidden references. Readers who enjoy finding those details for themselves can save the designer video until after exploring the build. A familiar poster may catch the eye immediately; smaller details give a second look its own reward.
A real return to the world of the show
Gillian Anderson helped introduce the model in a launch film and appears with it in the official photograph accompanying this article. That photograph shows the actual set and actor, bringing a direct connection to the series into its LEGO debut.
As checked October 5, 2026, LEGO’s US product page lists the set at $199.99 and available now. Availability can change. This guide assesses the documented design and presentation; it is not a hands-on review. For fans deciding whether it belongs in their collection, the useful question is which part matters most: the characters, the office details or the unusual stacked display.
