The word becomes an object

LEGO Art LOVE 31214 translates Robert Indiana’s familiar sculpture into a model built from bricks. Announced in November 2024 and released in January 2025, it was developed through a collaboration with Artestar. LEGO Art designer Mani Zamani discussed his admiration for Indiana’s work in the launch announcement.

The photograph shows why this subject can be understood so quickly at a table. Four large letters carry the message, while their arrangement makes the word a shape to examine. Our interest is in that meeting point between something you read and something you can walk around.

Color continues around the letters

LEGO’s product page describes a three-dimensional model in red, blue and green. It contains 791 pieces and measures approximately 25 centimeters high, 25 wide and 6 deep. Two sets of building instructions are included so a friend or family member can share the project.

This is a retrospective appreciation of the documented design, not a hands-on review. The dimensions are useful context: the finished object has a substantial front view while remaining relatively shallow. The model asks for attention to the spaces around and inside the letters as well as to their outer edges.

Try looking before reading

Our suggested way to enjoy the finished design is to pause before reading the word. Notice the open space in a letter, the angle of the O and the point where one colored surface gives way to another. Then move a little to one side and see which shapes become more prominent.

That is a simple observation exercise, not a claim about the artist’s intentions. It can be especially interesting for someone who usually builds vehicles or buildings. A letter has recognizable rules of its own, and a small change in proportion can alter how easily the whole thing reads.

A shared build can lead to separate ideas

The two instruction sets make collaboration part of the product’s stated appeal. For your own follow-up activity, try choosing a single letter and building it from spare pieces in two different ways. One version might be flat, while the other needs to stand up. Compare what each approach asks of the connections.

Keep that experiment personal rather than treating it as a replacement for Indiana’s composition. The enjoyable question is how much character a familiar shape can acquire through material and color. A model like this can leave a builder looking more closely at everyday signs after the bricks have been put away.
