A console with a second display mode

LEGO PlayStation, set 72306, recreates the original console and controller in 1,911 pieces. LEGO lists it for adult builders, with a console footprint of about 26 by 19 centimeters. Its announcement describes working Open and Power mechanisms and a controller that plugs into the model. These are physical model features; this is a brick-built display piece, not gaming hardware.

The games are part of the object

The reveal’s most interesting idea is inside the shell. There are buildable Gran Turismo and Ape Escape dioramas that can be removed and displayed separately. Sony describes a miniature racing track with cars and an island scene with a changeable monkey-helmet light.

Our reading of the design is that this gives the set two audiences: people who recognize the console as an object and people whose strongest memories are of the games. Displaying the scenes alongside the console should make that second layer easier for a visitor to discover.

What to consider before choosing a shelf

A footprint is only the beginning of a display plan. Allow room for the controller, its connection and any scenes you want outside the console. A low shelf could make the top more difficult to see, while a surface nearer eye level may favor the front silhouette. Those are layout considerations to test in your own space, not observations from a completed review model.

For collectors, the useful question is whether you want a recognizable object, a game reference or a building project. The announcement supports the first two. Build flow, structural feel and the satisfaction of operating the mechanisms will need hands-on assessment.

The release dates to put on your calendar

LEGO’s announced schedule starts with Insiders access on October 1, 2026, followed by general availability on October 4. The announced U.S. recommended price is $179.99; local prices and availability should be checked on the official listing. Sony separately lists October 1 availability through PlayStation Direct in selected countries.
