LEGO’s next American chapter is taking shape in Chesterfield, Virginia
The new factory is scheduled for 2027, with local jobs and a major on-site solar project. Here is what LEGO has confirmed.

A new home for making bricks
Chesterfield County is becoming a new home for LEGO manufacturing. The company is building a major factory near Richmond, adding production capacity close to its American customers. This is an expansion of the LEGO Group’s manufacturing network, rather than a relocation of the company’s global headquarters. The original June 2022 announcement described an investment of more than US$1 billion and a 1.7-million-square-foot facility, with more than 1,760 jobs expected once completed.
The opening to watch: 2027
The current target is 2027. LEGO’s October 2025 construction update marked the installation of the final steel beam and described the project as progressing toward that opening. In March 2026, LEGO announced a planned solar park occupying nearly 80 acres, with more than 30,700 ground-mounted panels and 22 MWp of capacity. The company also described a rooftop solar installation. These investments support its ambition to source renewable energy equivalent to the facility’s annual needs; they do not mean the factory will run independently of the electricity grid at every moment. The announcement also said the workforce was expected to nearly double during 2026. That combination of construction, training and renewable-energy planning gives the region several positive milestones to follow.
Part of a wider Virginia network
LEGO has also announced a regional distribution center in Prince George County, expected to open in 2027. The distribution center and the Chesterfield factory are separate facilities with complementary roles: one helps move products through the supply chain, while the other will make and pack them.
