A fan-built setting for a familiar October film

The Sanderson Sisters’ Cottage began as a LEGO Ideas submission by Belgian fan Amber Veyt. LEGO’s June 2023 announcement records the project reaching 10,000 supporters before selection for production, with the official set arriving that July. Set 21341 contains 2,316 pieces and draws on Disney’s 1993 Hocus Pocus.

With October beginning, it is a fitting existing model to revisit rather than a newly announced seasonal release. This article considers the documented features and display possibilities; it is not a hands-on review or a new interview with its fan creator.

The building can tell more than one version of the story

The original release describes a museum arrangement made with signs, an information stand, barriers and a cash register, with storage beneath the stairs. That gives the same cottage a different role without requiring a second building.

For a display, this is an appealing choice of viewpoint. The museum version can suggest people arriving to look around, while the witches’ home places attention on the activity inside. Our suggestion is to pick one main scene first, then arrange the characters around it. A clear moment is often easier to enjoy than trying to show every reference at once.

Opening the cottage reveals the useful details

LEGO’s product page describes an opening cottage, a detachable side room and a roof that lifts to reveal the bedroom. A water wheel moves the pink chimney smoke effect, while a light brick illuminates the fire beneath the cauldron. The gate and graveyard build can serve as a character display stand.

These features suggest allowing space around the building instead of pushing it tightly between other models. If visitors will see it mainly from one side, decide whether the exterior or open rooms deserve that view. The most elaborate interior detail cannot contribute much to a display if it remains hidden.

Give the characters a place in the scene

The set includes Winifred, Mary and Sarah Sanderson, Max and Dani Dennison, and Allison Watts, plus Thackery Binx as a cat figure. Distinguishing the six minifigures from the cat is useful when checking the contents of a stored or secondhand set.

For a seasonal arrangement, try placing a few characters where their action is immediately readable and using the separate stand for the others. Veyt’s chosen subject supports that flexibility: it is a place with rooms, entrances and objects that invite a story. Returning to those relationships can be more rewarding than simply putting a Halloween label beside the model.
