FUTURA gives NINJAGO a new artistic point of view
Three custom artworks open a conversation about character, color and the possibilities of a familiar minifigure shape.
A familiar silhouette meets a new hand
NINJAGO’s latest creative collaboration begins with a compelling invitation: look again at a character shape you already recognize. In its September 2026 announcement, the LEGO Group named FUTURA an artistic co-creator and revealed three hand-embellished minifigure artworks. The pieces include Ninja of the Futura and interpretations of Nya and Kai.
The reveal took place at the Brooklyn Museum. These are artworks from an announced creative partnership; the announcement does not establish a retail release or price for those three pieces. That distinction matters for collectors excited by the photographs.
Why the minifigure is an interesting canvas
Our reading of the reveal is that recognition does much of the work. A viewer brings an understanding of the minifigure before examining its surface. Changing color, marks and expression can therefore shift the character’s mood while leaving its basic identity readable.

A collaboration can be worth enjoying even when there is nothing to add to a cart. There is no need to mistake a custom exhibition piece for a mass-produced figure to appreciate its ideas.
